Srinagar, March 16:

A high-alert situation unfolded in the heart of Srinagar on Monday after a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Head Constable sustained life-threatening injuries due to the accidental firing of his own service weapon.

The incident occurred in the busy Jahangir Chowk area, near the old Assembly complex, sending a ripple of concern through the security installations in the capital.

Details of the Incident

According to officials from the 82 Battalion, the 45-year-old Head Constable was on active duty when his service rifle accidentally discharged.

The trajectory of the gunshot was severe:

  • Entry Point: The bullet entered the left side of the officer’s chest.

  • Exit Point: The projectile exited through the left upper back.

Emergency Response & Medical Status

Immediately following the gunshot, fellow personnel and bystanders rushed to the officer’s aid. He was evacuated with urgency to the SMHS Hospital in Srinagar, where a team of trauma specialists is currently attending to him.

“The personnel was brought in with a significant gunshot wound. His condition is currently stated to be critical, and he is under constant observation,” a medical official told Kashmir News Corner (KNC).
