Jammu, May 24:

In a major push toward building a drug-free society, the Criminologists Society of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) organized a comprehensive anti-drug awareness programme at MHAC School Nagbani, Jammu. Held under the aegis of the nationwide Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Drug-Free Campaign), the event saw intense interaction between experts, faculty, and hundreds of students on the multi-dimensional threats of substance abuse.

‘Addiction Destroys More Than Just the Individual’

Delivering a detailed PowerPoint presentation, Advocate Rameshwar Singh Jamwal, President of the Criminologists Society of J&K, broke down the complex psychological, social, neurological, and criminological impact of drug addiction.

He emphasized that substance abuse cannot be looked at in isolation, as it actively destabilizes families, drains economic productivity, and hampers national development.

“Tackling this requires a mix of self-discipline, yogic practices, behavioural transformation, and channelizing youth energy into positive social engagement.” — Advocate Rameshwar Singh Jamwal

Collective Social Action: The Need of the Hour

The speakers collectively highlighted a worrying upward trend in narcotic usage among teenagers and young adults, calling for immediate systemic interventions.

  • Rise Among Youth: Mr. Amarveer Manhas highlighted the alarming spike in youth substance abuse, stressing that value-based education and strong family support systems act as the primary shield against this trend.

  • Community Mobilization: Mr. Ranjeet Singh, General Secretary of the Society, focused on the operational side of the fight, explaining how schools, social organizations, and local communities must form a united front to stop behavioral degeneration.

The Society, which has been working on the ground for more than two decades against juvenile delinquency and crime, stated that its extensive field research and practical experience could be an invaluable resource for the government and educational institutions moving forward.

School Management Appreciates Initiatives

The interactive proceedings of the event were smoothly anchored by Mrs. Himani Uppal. Representing the host institution, MHAC School Nagbani’s Mrs. Sonia Anand and Coordinator Mrs. Tannu also addressed the gathering. They lauded the Criminologists Society’s long-standing crusade against social evils and reiterated the school’s commitment to fostering responsible citizenship among its pupils.

The event was well-attended by prominent members of civil society and the organization, including Vice President Mr. Rakeshwar Singh Durswal, Mr. Ashwani Kumar, Mr. B.K. Bhat, Mr. Chander Dev Manhas, and Mr. Adeep Bandral.
