Srinagar, Dec 29:

In a major move to bolster regional security and ensure public safety, the Baramulla Police on Monday issued a comprehensive safety advisory restricting all trekking activities in the upper forest reaches of Tangmarg.

The directive comes in the wake of an unauthorized trekking incident reported in the Danwas forest area on December 21, which raised concerns regarding security misunderstandings in the sensitive high-altitude zone.

According to the official handout, the police have implemented a complete ban on non-local tourists entering or trekking in the upper forest reaches.

“Entry and trekking in upper forest areas are strictly prohibited for non-local tourists under all circumstances until further orders,” the advisory stated.

While local residents are not entirely barred, their movement is now subject to strict administrative oversight. To prevent untoward incidents and security misinterpretations, the following rules are in effect for locals: Residents must seek formal permission from local authorities before planning any trip to the upper reaches. It is mandatory to inform the local police station or district administration prior to entering forested zones.

Security experts highlight that the Danwas forest serves as a vital natural corridor connecting the upper reaches of Baramulla with the Tangmarg-Gulmarg axis. Due to its proximity to the Pir Panjal foothills and its dense terrain, unauthorized movement in this area poses a high risk of “security misunderstandings” with forces conducting routine surveillance.

The Baramulla Police has urged the general public to cooperate with these new instructions. The measures are aimed at maintaining a secure environment and ensuring that adventure enthusiasts do not inadvertently find themselves in hazardous situations or restricted zones.

“The safety of the public and the maintenance of order are our top priorities. We appeal to everyone to follow authorized routes and respect the guidelines issued by the administration,” a police official added.
