Jammu, January 1:

Alert troops of the Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended a 19-year-old Bangladeshi national early Thursday morning near the International Border (IB) in the Gajansoo sector of Jammu district. The individual was subsequently handed over to the local police for further investigation and legal proceedings.

The incident occurred during routine surveillance when BSF personnel spotted suspicious movement close to the border fence.

The individual has been identified as: Shariful Islam Bhuiyan, 19 years old, Son of Mozibul Haque Bhuiyan, Resident of Adra, District Comilla, Bangladesh.

Following the apprehension, the BSF completed initial formalities and produced the teenager before the Border Police Post (BPP) Gajansoo, which falls under the jurisdiction of Police Station Kanachak.

Jammu Police confirmed that the individual is currently in custody. Officials are working to determine the exact circumstances of his crossing and whether he was aided by any local or cross-border handlers.

“The individual was apprehended near the Gajansoo area close to the IB. He is currently being questioned to ascertain the motive behind his presence in the high-security border zone,” a police official stated.

The apprehension comes on a day when security across the Jammu region has been placed on high alert. Earlier today, security forces in Poonch recovered a consignment of IEDs and drugs dropped by a drone, highlighting a coordinated effort by security agencies to thwart multiple forms of infiltration and smuggling along the border on the first day of the New Year.
