Jammu, Feb 8:

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jammu officially welcomed its newest cohort of MBBS students today in a grand Freshers’ Day ceremony. The event marked a milestone for the premier institution, signaling the start of a rigorous academic journey for the nation’s future medical leaders.

A Call to Service and Ethics

Presiding over the event, Prof. (Dr.) D.N. Sharma, Executive Director & CEO of AIIMS Jammu, delivered a comprehensive keynote address. He congratulated the incoming students on securing seats at one of India’s most prestigious medical centers and reminded them of the weight their new roles carry.

“Medicine is not merely a profession,” Prof. Sharma stated. “It is a lifelong commitment to service, ethics, and continuous learning.”

He emphasized that while technical mastery is essential, it must be balanced with:

  • Sincerity and Discipline: Approaching studies with a rigorous work ethic.

  • Compassion: Maintaining a patient-centric approach in every clinical effort.

  • Communication: Building trust through ethical conduct and clear dialogue.

State-of-the-Art Learning Environment

Prof. Sharma highlighted the institution’s commitment to holistic development, urging students to move beyond textbooks. He encouraged participation in clinical research and co-curricular activities, leveraging AIIMS Jammu’s state-of-the-art infrastructure and world-class faculty.

Addressing the senior students and faculty, the Director underscored the importance of a “supportive and inclusive” environment. He called on mentors to ensure the new batch feels safe, motivated, and empowered to excel in their demanding curriculum.

Culture Meets Tradition

The ceremony, held in the institute’s main auditorium, wasn’t strictly academic. Senior students welcomed their juniors with a series of cultural performances, including:

  1. Traditional Dances: Celebrating the rich heritage of the Jammu region.

  2. Thematic Skits: Offering a humorous yet insightful look at life on campus.

  3. The Lamp Lighting: A symbolic induction representing the transition from students to seekers of medical excellence.

As AIIMS Jammu continues to expand its clinical and academic capabilities, this new batch enters at a pivotal time for healthcare in the region. The institution remains a cornerstone of the government’s mission to strengthen medical education and delivery across North India.
