Moving a step closer to revolutionizing advanced eye care in the region, the Department of Ophthalmology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jammu organized a high-profile CME-cum-Workshop on “Diagnostic Innovations and Clinical Applications in Cornea and Retina.”
The prestigious academic event was held at the Convention Centre, AIIMS Jammu campus, bringing together top medical experts, researchers, and practitioners to deliberate on the latest breakthroughs in eye imaging and patient care.
Bridging the Gap: Recent Advances in Cornea & Retina
The intensive academic program put a spotlight on cutting-edge corneal and retinal imaging techniques, highlighting how modern tech can be translated into superior bedside patient care. The main objective of the workshop was to sharpen the diagnostic and interpretative skills of practicing ophthalmologists, postgraduate residents, optometrists, and pediatricians.
National stalwarts from premier medical institutes across the country spearheaded the technical sessions. Key guest speakers included:
- Prof. Chintan Malhotra & Dr. Deeksha Katoch from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.
- Dr. Diva Kant Mishra, President of the Young Ophthalmologists’ Society of India (YOSI).

The CME was held under the vision and patronage of Prof. (Dr.) D.N. Sharma, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Jammu, alongside Prof. (Dr.) Meeta Gupta, Dean Academics.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. D.N. Sharma underscored the vital need for institutional knowledge sharing. He noted that regular academic meets are foundational to strengthening clinical expertise, fostering continuous professional learning, and ensuring that patients receive international-standard healthcare right here in Jammu through the adoption of emerging diagnostic tools.

The event commenced with an introductory address by Organising Chairperson, Dr. Bhavani Raina (Officiating Head, Department of Ophthalmology), who warmly welcomed the delegates.
The smooth execution of the scientific sessions was steered by Co-Organising Chairperson Dr. Nitin Kumar (Associate Professor) and Organising Secretaries Dr. Nazia Anjum and Dr. Ridham Nanda (Assistant Professors). The entire event was meticulously coordinated on the ground by Senior Residents Dr. Asma Jabeen and Dr. Shefali Verma.
