Srinagar, June 5:

To mark World Environment Day, the Director General of Police (DGP), Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Nalin Prabhat-IPS, officially launched a comprehensive tree plantation campaign in Anantnag today.

Initiating the drive, the DGP planted a Cedar tree (Cedrus deodara) within the district, signaling a department-wide commitment to environmental conservation, ecological balance, and sustainable green initiatives across the region.

Fostering Eco-Awareness and Expanding Green Cover

The plantation campaign aims to significantly increase the green cover in Jammu & Kashmir while actively fostering a culture of environmental responsibility. Speaking on the significance of the drive, officials highlighted that the initiative is designed to inspire both police personnel and the general public to actively participate in safeguarding the region’s natural heritage.

The primary goals of the campaign include:

  • Enhancing Regional Green Cover: Actively planting native species like Cedar to support the local ecosystem.

  • Promoting Awareness: Educating departmental employees and citizens about the critical need for environmental protection.

  • Encouraging Public Participation: Inspiring community-led tree plantation drives to combat climate challenges.

Departmental Commitment to a Greener Future

The choice of the Cedar tree—a species deeply rooted in the ecological fabric of the Himalayan landscape—underscores the force’s focus on sustainable and native afforestation.

Senior police officials and local administrative authorities also joined the campaign, reinforcing the Jammu & Kashmir Police’s dedication to contributing beyond standard law enforcement duties by championing vital social and environmental causes for future generations.
