JAMMU, MAR 11: In a decisive action against illegal mining, Jammu Police on Tuesday has intensified its crackdown under the code-named operation “Ploughing,” executing seven major seizures in the past 48 hours across the South Zone. The operation, conducted under the directions of SSP Jammu, was spearheaded by SP South, with SDPO South and SDPO East leading enforcement teams comprising SHOs and ICPPs from the zone.
As per the statement issued to The Newsoom 24 – Awaz, the most significant seizure occurred at PP Belicharana, where police intercepted a Poclain excavator and a JCB engaged in unauthorized mining at River Tawi. Officials stated that the excavator was causing extensive damage to the riverbed, disrupting the natural flow and ecological balance of the region. The swift action, authorities emphasized, is a crucial step in protecting the environment from unregulated mineral extraction.
Additionally, enforcement teams at different locations across South Zone seized several other vehicles involved in illegal mining activities. Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu intercepted two dumpers transporting River Bed Material (RBM) without authorization, while PP Phallian Mandal seized two tractor trolleys engaged in unlawful excavation. Another tractor trolley loaded with boulders was confiscated by PP Gadi Garh. The District Mineral Officer (DMO), Jammu, has been informed for further legal proceedings against those involved.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on illegal mining, Jammu Police has vowed to continue stringent enforcement measures, ensuring that violators face swift legal consequences. Authorities have also pledged intensified surveillance to prevent further instances of mineral smuggling in the region.
Meanwhile, in a separate community outreach initiative, police stations across South Zone engaged with 35 senior citizens, addressing their concerns regarding safety and security. The effort aims to strengthen police-community relations and enhance support systems for elderly residents.
