Suspected Dates Seized

ANANTNAG, MAR 06: The Food Safety Department in Anantnag seized 150 kgs of suspected dates and collected various samples for detailed analysis at an NABL-accredited laboratory during a joint market inspection conducted across the district on Thursday.

As per the statement issued to The Newsroom 24 – Awaz, the inspection was carried out in collaboration with officials from the Food Safety Department, FCS&CA, and the Legal Metrology Department in view of the holy month of Ramadan. The drive primarily focused on establishments dealing with dates, fresh fruits, vegetables, and other edible items to ensure the availability of safe and wholesome food for the public.

During the inspection, six petty Food Business Operators (FBOs) were found violating various provisions of the Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006. They have been recommended for compounding under Section 69 of the Act. The authorities also issued warnings to traders and urged the public to be cautious when purchasing food products that do not meet proper labeling standards.

Officials assured that regular inspections will continue in the district to curb malpractices, enforce fair pricing, and protect consumer interests.
