JAMMU, FEB 28: In a pioneering step towards digital policing, Police Station Satwari has registered its first electronic First Information Report (e-FIR) following a complaint lodged via WhatsApp on Friday.
As per the statement issued to The Newsroom 24 – Awaz, the complaint was filed by Sanjay Kumar, son of Chuni Lal, residing in Lower Gadigadh, Jammu.
According to the complaint, Kumar parked his black Pulsar 150 motorcycle, bearing registration number JK0AP 7695, opposite Shambhave Ice Cream Parlour in Gadigadh. Upon returning, he was dismayed to find his motorcycle missing, suspected to have been stolen by unknown individuals. Despite his efforts to locate the vehicle, it remained untraceable.
Responding promptly to the WhatsApp complaint, Police Station Satwari registered the e-FIR, designated as FIR No. 43/2025, under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code. This initiative reflects the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s commitment to leveraging digital platforms for efficient, citizen-centric services and timely grievance redressal.
This landmark move underscores the integration of technology within law enforcement, setting a precedent for faster and more accessible justice delivery mechanisms in the region. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South Jammu, along with the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Satwari, have been actively conducting awareness programs on the new criminal laws. These efforts encourage the public to come forward and report cognizable offenses, facilitating a more responsive and transparent policing system.
The public is urged to utilize these digital platforms to report incidents promptly, ensuring swift action and resolution.
