JAMMU, FEB 03: AIIMS Jammu marked its first Institute Day with a grand celebration on Monday, highlighting a year of notable achievements in healthcare, research, and medical education. The event was graced by Shri V. Srinivas, IAS, Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances, and Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare, who attended as the Chief Guest.
During his visit to the AIIMS Jammu campus, Shri Srinivas commended the state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities, including the Digital Library, 1000-seat Convention Centre, Lecture Halls, Next-Generation Sequencing Lab, Radio-Oncology services, Modular OT Complex, and the Emergency & Trauma center.
As per the statement issued to The Newsroom 24 – Awaz, the event witnessed the presence of several distinguished dignitaries, including Prof. (Dr.) Y.K. Gupta, President of AIIMS Jammu; Prof. (Dr.) M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS New Delhi; Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & CEO of AIIMS Jammu; and Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director & CEO of Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone Ltd. (AMTZ). Members of the Institute Body of AIIMS Jammu, such as Prof. (Dr.) Yatin Mehta, Chairman of Medanta Institute of Critical Care and Anesthesiology; Prof. (Dr.) Omar Javed Shah, Former Director of SKIMS; Prof. (Dr.) A.K. Bisoi of AIIMS New Delhi; Prof. (Dr.) Anil Gupta, President of AIIMS Bathinda; and Prof. (Dr.) R. Chandrashekhar, Former Chief Architect, MoH&FW, GoI, also attended the event.
In his address, Shri Srinivas recalled his tenure at AIIMS Delhi and praised the visionary leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta for successfully establishing AIIMS Jammu within a short span. He emphasized the institution’s rapid development and its growing impact on healthcare and medical education in the region.
Prof. (Dr.) M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS New Delhi, reaffirmed the commitment of AIIMS Delhi to mentor and support AIIMS Jammu in its journey toward becoming a center of excellence. He highlighted the institution’s role in fostering medical research, academic excellence, and patient care.
Dr. Jitendra Sharma, CEO of AMTZ, stressed the importance of India’s self-reliance in medical technology, advocating for the ‘Make in India’ initiative to boost indigenous production of medical equipment and reduce dependence on imports.
Prof. (Dr.) Y.K. Gupta, President of AIIMS Jammu, spoke on the growing threat of antibiotic resistance, emphasizing the need for responsible use of antibiotics to safeguard public health. He also outlined AIIMS Jammu’s vision to become a hub of medical research and innovation.
Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & CEO of AIIMS Jammu, extended his gratitude to the dignitaries for their support and guidance. He reiterated AIIMS Jammu’s commitment to achieving excellence in patient care, education, and research.
The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony for winners of inter-institute competitions, including participants from IIMs and IITs, followed by cultural performances by MBBS and BSc Nursing students, adding a festive spirit to the celebrations.
