Congress Delegation Meets LG

Raises Concerns Over Statehood Delay, Recruitment, Katra Ropeway

JAMMU, JAN 08: A Delegation of the Congress party met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan on Wednesday evening to discuss a range of issues affecting the public, especially the youth.

Led by Working President Raman Bhalla, the delegation included Ravinder Sharma, Yogesh Sawhney, Ved Mahajan, and Rakesh Wazir. The leaders expressed concern over the delay in restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and the framing of business rules, which they said has created administrative uncertainty, causing hardships for the people.

The delegation highlighted the need for age relaxation for overage youth applying for police and other government jobs. They also pressed for fast-tracking the recruitment process to fill existing vacancies, citing unrest among educated youth due to prolonged delays.

Another key issue raised during the meeting was the ongoing controversy surrounding the Katra ropeway project. The delegation urged the administration to resolve the matter through dialogue with all stakeholders, considering the religious, economic, and livelihood aspects involved. They criticized the local administration and police for their handling of the situation but acknowledged the intervention by higher authorities that helped defuse tensions.

Additionally, the Congress leaders demanded proper developmental facilities at the Bhair Dev Sthan in Jammu to cater to devotees and enhance the site’s infrastructure.

Following the meeting, Raman Bhalla and Ravinder Sharma briefed the media outside Raj Bhawan. They stated that the meeting was convened urgently in light of the recent developments in Katra and sought the LG’s intervention. They added, “The Lt Governor listened to our concerns patiently and discussed the issues at length.”
