Statue of General Zorawar

JAMMU, JAN 05: Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, has assured the installation of a statue of General Zorawar Singh at Pangong Tso Lake. The move aims to honor the contributions of the legendary Dogra warrior, often referred to as the “Napoleon of India.”

Diksha Kaluria and Riya Kaluria, sixth-generation descendants of General Zorawar Singh and trustees of the General Zorawar Singh Memorial Educational and Charitable Trust, expressed their delight at the decision. They emphasized the historical significance of General Zorawar Singh, who expanded the Dogra Empire by conquering Ladakh, Baltistan, Skardu, and Tibet, making Jammu and Kashmir the largest princely state in India.

Speaking on the occasion, Diksha and Riya highlighted the unparalleled courage and leadership displayed by General Zorawar Singh and his small horse-backed Dogra army, who braved icy winds, treacherous terrains, and freezing temperatures to achieve remarkable victories. They urged the Union Territory government to duly recognize the bravery of Dogra soldiers led by the legendary General and install his statue as a tribute to their valor.

“While we have great respect for Shivaji Maharaj and his contributions to the Hindu empire in southern India, General Zorawar Singh’s achievements in Leh-Ladakh and beyond deserve equal recognition,” said Diksha Kaluria. She added, “If a statue of Shivaji Maharaj can be installed at Pangong Tso, then why not one for General Zorawar Singh, who climbed the difficult terrains of Ladakh in sub-zero temperatures?”

The Lieutenant Governor assured that discussions would be held with the LG of Ladakh to ensure the installation of the statue. The proposal envisions statues of both Shivaji Maharaj and General Zorawar Singh at the picturesque Pangong Tso Lake, symbolizing the valor of India’s great warriors.

“This initiative will serve as a source of inspiration for the present and future generations, keeping alive the legacy of these legendary figures,” added Diksha Kaluria.
