JAMMU, NOV 30: A day before the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) constable examination, aspirants staged a protest at Exhibition Ground, Jammu, on Saturday, demanding age relaxation. The protesters expressed disappointment over the government’s indifference to their appeals.
Speaking to The Newsroom 24 – Awaz, one of the aspirants, Sandeep Singh Badwal, said, “We have been loudly demanding age relaxation, but no one listens to us. The government has decided to conduct the exam tomorrow without addressing our concerns. The Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory listens only to the Centre and not the people of Jammu and Kashmir. However, we again urge the LG to consider our demand for age relaxation.”
Another aspirant pointed out that the inconsistency in age limits for recruitment. “For the recently advertised Jammu and Kashmir Police Sub-Inspector (JKPSI) posts, the age limit was set between 18 and 28 years. But who completes their graduation at the age of 18? We’ve been demanding age relaxation for the past eight months,” he said, adding that the lack of regular job advertisements forces many candidates to age out of eligibility.
Highlighting the plight of aspirants, one protester said, “Many candidates turned ineligible just a day or two before the exam. This isn’t their fault. If the government conducts recruitment exams regularly, such issues wouldn’t arise, and we wouldn’t have to take to the streets.”
“If the LG administration defers the exam, it will be appreciated. If not, we will approach the High Court to seek a stay on the examination. Our struggle for age relaxation will continue,” said another protester.
Students from various parts of Jammu joined the protest, expressing anger and frustration over the lack of consideration for their demand.
