JAMMU, NOV 24: In a stern move to enforce tenant verification protocols, the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) on Sunday registered 14 FIRs against house and landowners in the Sub-Division East of South Zone, Jammu against individuals who were found violating District Magistrate (DM) orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which mandates police verification of tenants and domestic helpers.

As per the release issued to The Newsroom 24 –  Awaz, the verification drive was launched on the directives of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, with a special exercise spearheaded by the Superintendent of Police (SP) South and Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) East.

The initiative aims to address security concerns by identifying and verifying all outsiders residing in the district without proper documentation.

During the campaign, nine FIRs were registered at Police Station Bahu Fort, while five cases were filed at Police Station Channi Himmat. These cases were lodged under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for non-compliance with the tenant verification process.

Highlighting the importance of the drive, a senior police official stated, “The District Magistrate has repeatedly emphasized the need for property owners to ensure police verification of their tenants to enhance safety and security across Jammu. Non-compliance is a direct breach of these orders.”

The police have appealed to citizens to proactively submit details of tenants and domestic helpers at their nearest police stations. They stressed that timely verification is critical, given the prevailing security scenario in the region.

Residents have widely appreciated the initiative, recognizing its role in fostering a secure and law-abiding society.
