Police Seize 265 Grams

JAMMU, OCT 27: The Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) on Sunday seized 265 grams of heroin, commonly known as ‘chitta,’ valued at approximately ₹27 lakh, along with cash totaling ₹4,05,700, from a vehicle near the TCP Nagrota area. The police apprehended four individuals involved in the operation, including three real brothers, while another suspect managed to flee the scene.

As per the release issued here, acting on a tip-off from a reliable source, the Nagrota Police Station (PS) team, led by the Station House Officer (SHO) under senior supervision, launched the operation on Sunday.

According to release, five suspects were initially named in the information: Shabir Choudhary, Shakeel Ahmed, and Farooq Choudhary, all sons of Shah Mansha and residents of Sitni Bypass Nagrota, and Waseem Akram, son of Ghulam Mohammad from Dharam Kund, Ramban district.

The suspects were reportedly using a Scorpio vehicle, registered as JK02DK/9844, to transport and sell heroin to smugglers and local youth near the TCP Bypass Nagrota.

Upon arrival at the designated location, the police intercepted the vehicle, successfully detaining Shabir, Shakeel, Farooq, and Waseem. However, the fifth suspect, Arif Choudhary, another son of Shah Mansha, escaped after spotting the approaching police team.

During a thorough search of the vehicle, authorities uncovered 265 grams of heroin concealed in the dashboard, along with the large cash sum.

An official case, FIR No. 283/2024, has been registered at Police Station Nagrota under sections 8, 21, 22, 25, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The police have initiated further investigations to uncover both forward and backward linkages associated with this trafficking network.

The swift and effective action taken by the Jammu Police has drawn praise from the local community, who have expressed gratitude for the department’s ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region.
