RAMBAN, OCT 18: A missing person’s case has turned into a murder investigation after a man was arrested for allegedly killing his wife in Ramban. The accused, Jeevan Singh, resident of Jhatgali, Tehsil Rajgarh, reportedly confessed to pushing his wife, Salesha Devi (35), into the Chenab River near the Chanderkote footbridge.
The case began on September 7, 2024, when Silma Devi, mother-in-law of the deceased, filed a missing person’s report at Police Post Rajgarh. In her application, she reported that her daughter-in-law, Salesha Devi, had been missing since September 4, 2024. A missing report was registered under DDR No. 14 at Police Post Rajgarh.
Sensing the seriousness of the case, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban, Kulbir Singh, constituted a special investigation team led by Dy.SP Headquarters Ramban. The team began by interviewing the legal heirs and witnesses, while also gathering technical evidence. It was revealed that on the day of the incident, the accused Jeevan Singh had taken his wife to Ramban market to purchase clothes for their children. Witnesses confirmed seeing the couple together in the market.
Following sustained interrogation, Jeevan Singh admitted to intentionally pushing his wife into the Chenab River. Based on his confession, the initial missing report was converted into FIR No. 256/2024 under Section 103/BNS (murder case) at Police Station Ramban. The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is ongoing.
