SRINAGAR, OCT 11: The Jammu and Kashmir administration, under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, introduced new guidelines for the recruitment of police officers under the Jammu and Kashmir Police (Gazetted) Service Recruitment Rules, 2024. The new rules, detailed in a government notification (SO 500), aim to enhance transparency and efficiency in the recruitment process.
The updated regulations, which come into immediate effect, streamline the recruitment and promotion of officers across various cadres within the Jammu and Kashmir Police Gazetted Service. The move is expected to improve the management and operation of the police force in the region.
According to the new rules, the recruitment process will be carried out through two methods: direct appointments and promotions. The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) will manage direct recruitment, while promotions will be overseen by the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC). This system is designed to ensure fairness and clarity in officer recruitment.
The newly classified cadres under the service include General, Telecommunication, Ministerial, Stenography, Photography, Police Transport Workshop, and Arms/Ammunition. To supervise promotions and placements, two selection committees have been established, led by senior officials such as the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police.
These reforms replace the Jammu and Kashmir Police (Gazetted) Service Recruitment Rules of 2002, offering a more structured and transparent process to strengthen the police force in Jammu and Kashmir. The new guidelines are part of the administration’s efforts to modernize recruitment practices and enhance the efficiency of the police service in the Union Territory.
The rules are now officially in effect, with implementation set to follow in line with the government’s notification.
