RAJOURI, OCT 11: International Girl Child Day was celebrated with enthusiasm in Rajouri, focusing on the empowerment and upliftment of girls in society. The event, themed “Girls’ Vision for the Future,” was organized by the District Administration Rajouri in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department. It took place at the PWD Dak Bungalow, with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abhishek Sharma presiding over the function.
The celebration aimed to raise awareness about the challenges faced by girls and promote their rights through a series of activities and discussions. Distinguished women achievers from various fields were honored for their contributions and shared their personal journeys to inspire the younger generation of girls.
In his address, DC Abhishek Sharma emphasized the crucial role that girls play in the community. “Girls are the backbone of our society, and their empowerment is essential for societal progress,” he stated. Sharma highlighted the importance of education in empowering girls and ensuring their participation across all sectors. He also spoke about the government’s efforts, such as the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” scheme, which aims to support and uplift girls in every aspect of life.
Sharma praised the collaborative efforts of the District Administration and the Social Welfare Department in implementing programs focusing on healthcare, education, and economic empowerment for women and girls. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to creating a supportive environment where girls can thrive and contribute to the development of the community.
The event saw participation from over 450 attendees, including students, Anganwadi Workers (AWWs), ASHA workers, and civil society members. Among the notable guests were District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) Abdul Raheem, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Aditi Singhaal, and Tehsil Social Welfare Officers Shahid Mumtaz (Darhal), Rahul Puri (Sunderbani), Khursheed Malik (Kotranka), along with Waqar Khan from the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA). Representatives from the One Stop Centre and the Hub for Empowerment of Women were also present.
