JAMMU, OCT 16: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested two individuals with heroin-like substances during routine patrol in the Sidhra area of Sub-Division Nagrota. The arrest took place on Wednesday during a naka (checkpoint) established by the police at Sidhra Bridge.

According to official reports, a bike bearing registration number JK17A/5158 was intercepted by police while it was traveling from Narwal towards Nagrota. Upon being signaled to stop, the rider and the passenger attempted to flee the scene. However, the alert police team from Police Post Sidhra quickly overpowered both suspects and detained them for questioning.

The suspects were identified as Akash Bharti, son of Ashok Bharti, and Umar Ali, son of Sardar Ali, both residents of Poochal, Kishtwar. A personal search led to the recovery of approximately 30 grams of a heroin-like substance from their possession.

A case under FIR No. 274/2024 has been registered at Police Station Nagrota under sections 8, 21, 22, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. An investigation into the case is currently underway.
