JAMMU, OCT 27: Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Zone, Anand Jain, IPS, on Sunday inaugurated the Diwali Mela at GO Mess, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. The annual event, eagerly awaited by police personnel and their families, provides a festive gathering space featuring a variety of shopping options and entertainment.

As per the release issued here, the inaugural ceremony was attended by senior police officials, members of the Police Wives Welfare Association (PWWA), and families of the police force.

Jain, along with senior officers, toured the mela, visiting numerous stalls offering a wide range of items including clothing, handicrafts, toys, and a variety of festive foods. He commended the vendors for their efforts in curating the event, which also serves to support the welfare of police martyr families through sales generated at the mela.

This year’s mela features stalls from Police Welfare Centres in Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua, Poonch, Rajouri, and other districts, along with the Police Departmental Store in Jammu. The array of items on display includes intricately designed scented and decorative candles, traditional diyas, handmade woolen kurtis, embroidered bed sheets, and handcrafted shawls.

Visitors also enjoyed browsing through baby sweaters, woolen stoles, hand-ground spices, and dry fruits, showcasing the craftsmanship of police welfare centers.

In addition to the stalls, a Rangoli Competition was organized, where approximately 30 students from Police Public School, Miran Sahib, displayed their artistic skills. ADGP Jain took time to admire the rangolis, interacting with students and commending their talent, which he emphasized as an important aspect of their personal development.

The ADGP highlighted the significance of such events in uplifting the morale of the police force and fostering unity among personnel and their families. He expressed his appreciation to the Police Welfare Centre and all contributors for their efforts in making the Diwali Mela a memorable event.

The inaugural event was graced by the presence of senior officials, including Sarah Rizvi, IPS, DIG IR Jammu; Vinod Kumar, IPS, DIG Armed Jammu; Shiv Kumar Sharma, IPS, DIG JKS Range; Sargun Shukla, IPS, CO IRP 15th Battalion; and Anita Sharma, IPS, CO IR 1st Battalion, alongside members of the PWWA.
