Jammu, Jan 7:

The Special Crime Wing (SCW) of the Crime Branch Jammu has officially registered a case against a local resident for allegedly cheating a Jammu businessman of ₹15.15 lakhs. The case highlights a sophisticated pattern of “fraudulent inducement” under the guise of a business expansion.

The case originated from a written complaint filed by a resident of Shaheedi Chowk, Bawe Wali Gali, Jammu. According to the complainant, the accused—identified as Mehraj Din, son of Late Abdul Gani, who operates “Mehraj Halal Meat Shop” in Talab Khatika—leveraged a personal relationship to solicit funds.

The complainant alleged that: The accused induced him to invest money on the pretext of funding his meat supply business, Promises were made for early repayment and profit sharing and Over several intervals, the complainant handed over a total sum of ₹15,15,000.

A critical point in the investigation involves a cheque issued by the accused to liquidate his liability. However, the complainant claims the accused used delay tactics to avoid a bank transaction:

“The accused requested the complainant not to present the cheque for encashment, assuring him that the entire amount would be paid in cash shortly. Trusting this assurance, the complainant waited until the cheque eventually expired, rendering it useless.”

When the complainant finally demanded his money, the accused allegedly refused to pay and threatened him with dire consequences.

Upon receiving the complaint, the Crime Branch conducted a preliminary verification. The findings confirmed that the accused had used misrepresentation and fraudulent means to misappropriate the funds for his meat business.

The SCW has now launched a formal investigation to trace the misappropriated funds and secure justice for the complainant.
