Jammu, April 10:
The Special Crime Wing (SCW) of the Crime Branch Jammu has officially registered a case against a local man for allegedly orchestrating a fraudulent land deal. The accused, identified as Arjun Kumar, stands accused of cheating a couple from Bishnah out of a substantial sum of money by selling land he never actually owned.
The “Sale” That Never Was
The investigation began following a written complaint from a resident of Chak Murar, Bishnah. According to the victim, she and her husband were searching for agricultural land when they were introduced to Arjun Kumar (son of Girdhari Lal) through a relative.
Kumar allegedly made the following claims to win their trust:
-
Claimed ownership of 02 kanals of land under Khasra No. 955 in Village Palli, Samba.
-
Represented himself as a legitimate dealer in the sale and purchase of land.
-
Assured the victims that he would handle all necessary legal documentation.
The Financial Trail
Relying on these assurances, the complainant entered into an “Agreement to Sell” for a total price of ₹6 Lakhs. Over time, the victims paid a total of ₹5,62,000, broken down into:
-
₹3.35 Lakhs paid in cash at the time of the agreement.
-
The remaining balance transferred via UPI payments on various dates.
The Deception Revealed
The fraud came to light when the accused failed to hand over possession of the land or execute the formal sale deed. Upon further investigation, the victims discovered a shocking double-cross:
-
The accused had reportedly sold the same piece of land to another individual.
-
Revenue Record Check: A verification from the Tehsildar’s office in Bari Brahmana confirmed that the accused had no ownership entry for the land in question.
“A preliminary verification established that the accused, with fraudulent intent from the outset, deceived the complainant by misrepresenting facts,” an SCW official stated.
