Jammu, Feb 25:
In a massive boost to the Union Territory’s infrastructure and tourism sector, Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha expressed his profound gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the Union Cabinet’s approval of a ₹1,677 crore expansion for the Civil Enclave at Srinagar International Airport.
The approval, granted by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), is being hailed as a “defining leap” for connectivity in the Kashmir Valley.
A World-Class Civil Enclave for the Valley
The ambitious project involves the construction of a state-of-the-art 71,500 sqm Civil Enclave. This expansion is not just about size but about massive capacity building to meet the growing demand of travelers:
-
Peak Hour Capacity: Designed to serve 2,900 passengers simultaneously.
-
Annual Capacity: Set to handle a staggering 10 million passengers per year.
-
Economic Impact: The LG noted that improved connectivity will act as a catalyst for more tourists, increased investment, and large-scale job creation.
“The new Civil Enclave will upgrade the Valley’s economic future, transforming Srinagar from a beautiful destination into a thriving one,” LG Sinha stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Fulfilling a Long-Standing Promise
Reflecting on the journey of this project, the Lieutenant Governor recalled the initial announcement made on September 25, 2021, in the presence of the then Minister for Civil Aviation. He emphasized that this approval brings that vision to life, marking the dawn of a “bold aviation era” for Jammu and Kashmir.
Update on Jammu Airport: New Terminal Nearing Completion
The LG also shared a significant update regarding the winter capital. Under the PM’s leadership, the new terminal at Jammu Airport is on track for completion by the end of this year (2026).
Once commissioned, the advanced infrastructure in the “Spiritual City” of Jammu is expected to bolster regional connectivity and trigger remarkable economic advancement, similar to the Srinagar project.
