Jammu, April 4:

In a major breakthrough against rising digital crimes, the Cyber Police Station Jammu announced on Saturday that it has successfully disposed of over 1,200 fraud complaints and saved approximately ₹3.52 crore belonging to victims in the first quarter of 2026.

Key Achievements: January – March 2026

The police spokesperson revealed a high-efficiency turnaround between January 1 and March 31, highlighting the department’s aggressive stance on cyber investigations:

  • Financial Recovery: A total of ₹3,51,76,914 siphoned off by fraudsters was successfully frozen or recovered.

  • Case Disposal: 1,259 complaints and 11 formal cases (including 5 from the backlog) were resolved.

  • Arrests: Five accused individuals were apprehended from various states in a series of coordinated raids.

  • Mobile Recovery: 42 missing mobile phones, valued at ₹8.4 lakh, were recovered and returned to their owners.

New Threats: AI and “Digital Arrests”

Police officials noted an “exponential rise” in sophisticated scamming techniques. The spokesperson warned citizens about three specific emerging threats:

  1. Digital Arrests: Scammers impersonating law enforcement to create panic.

  2. AI Voice Cloning: Using artificial intelligence to mimic the voices of distressed family members.

  3. Investment Fraud: Luring victims with high-return schemes.

“Citizens are urged to remain vigilant. Scammers are frequently impersonating law enforcement agencies to steal money through fear,” the spokesperson added.

Education and Training

Beyond enforcement, the Jammu Cyber Police focused heavily on prevention and capacity building:

  • 23 Awareness Programmes: Conducted across the region to educate the public on digital safety.

  • Internship Initiative: 10 students from the Central University of Jammu completed a specialized internship, gaining hands-on experience in modern cyber policing.

The authorities emphasized that the first hour after a fraud occurs—the Golden Hour—is critical for recovering stolen funds.
