Jammu, Dec 30:
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Jammu of the Crime Branch J&K has concluded 2025 on a historic note. Marking a landmark year for law enforcement in the Union Territory, the specialized wing has broken a quarter-century record for case registrations while recovering significant financial assets for victims of fraud.
Through meticulous investigation and proactive policing, the EOW Jammu registered 67 new FIRs in 2025—the highest number in the last 25 years. This surge in activity highlights the wing’s aggressive stance against complex financial crimes, including job scams, land frauds, and forgery.
2025 Performance at a Glance: Cases Registered; 67 (A 25-year record high). Complaints Resolved; 1,186 public grievances addressed and disposed of. Financial Impact; Approximately ₹20 Crores involved in charge-sheeted cases. Arrests Made; 22 high-profile accused individuals apprehended across various states. Forensic Coverage; 3,599 crime scenes documented by the specialized Photo Sections.
The EOW didn’t just focus on numbers; it targeted the roots of organized economic networks. Major operations during the year focused on: Dismantling illegal job consultancies that preyed on unemployed youth. Booking habitual offenders and professional land brokers involved in systematic cheating. Investigating the misappropriation of government funds and misuse of official positions by public servants. Solving high-profile cases involving impersonation and fraudulent travel documents.
A key factor in this year’s success was the Photo Sections of EOW Jammu. Operating across different districts, these teams provided comprehensive photographic evidence for 3,599 crime scenes, ensuring that the evidence presented in the Courts of Law was airtight.
Furthermore, the wing maintained seamless coordination with banks, financial institutions, and government departments to track the paper trail of complex “white-collar” crimes.
“The timely disposal of these FIRs stands as a testimony to the professionalism and dedication of our officers. We remain committed to protecting public trust and ensuring a secure economic environment in Jammu and Kashmir,” the Wing stated in its annual review.
As part of its outreach, the EOW also conducted awareness programs regarding New Criminal Laws to empower the general public against evolving tactics used by fraudsters.
The Crime Branch urges citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious financial activity or economic offences promptly.
