SRINAGAR, OCT 29: In a spirited celebration of National Unity Day, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ event from the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Center (SKICC) on Tuesday, marking the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister.

As per the release issued here, the event witnessed the presence of senior government officials, including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Principal Secretary Home, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, along with various civil and police officers. The ‘Run for Unity’ drew a wide range of participants from civil administration, police forces, CRPF, and an enthusiastic gathering of local youth, with both men and women actively taking part.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Abdullah highlighted the significance of unity, stating, “The ‘Run for Unity’ symbolizes the spirit of unity, a value deeply cherished by the people of Kashmir.” He further emphasized the importance of collective harmony in the region, aligning with the ideals upheld by Sardar Patel.

Before flagging off the run, the Chief Minister administered a unity pledge to all participants, underlining a commitment to fostering unity across the nation. The run culminated at the scenic Botanical Gardens in Chashma Shahi, marking a successful celebration of the day’s events.
