Jammu, June 30:

The Jammu and Kashmir Border Area Development Conference (JK-BADC) has expressed concern over the poor condition of the public transport system in Poonch district, saying it is causing serious inconvenience to people living in border and remote areas.

JK-BADC Chairman and former Vice Chancellor, Dr. Shazad Ahmed Malik, said the existing transport system is inadequate and fails to meet the daily needs of residents. He said many villages remain poorly connected, while the limited number of buses and passenger vehicles leads to overcrowding and long waiting hours.

According to Dr. Malik, students, employees, patients, senior citizens and daily commuters are among those most affected by the lack of reliable public transport. He stressed that efficient transport is essential for ensuring access to education, healthcare, employment and other basic services, especially in border and hilly areas.

He urged the Jammu and Kashmir Government and the Transport Department to introduce additional bus services, improve connectivity to remote villages, rationalise transport routes and ensure regular monitoring of transport operations.

JK-BADC said strengthening the public transport network in Poonch would improve the quality of life for residents and contribute to the socio-economic development of the border district. The organisation expressed hope that the authorities would take prompt action to address the issue.
