Jammu:
Commissioner Secretary, Forests, Ecology and Environment, Sheetal Nanda, on Wednesday visited Chak Dulma and Chak Lala villages in Rajpura block of Samba district under Phase-II of the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP).
The visit was aimed at reviewing the progress of development works and reinforcing the government’s commitment towards the holistic development of border villages in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the visit, officials briefed the Commissioner Secretary about the status of various projects proposed under the programme. It was informed that all 16 identified villages under VVP have been assigned Nodal Officers and a comprehensive gap analysis has been completed for each village.
According to officials, 11 development projects have been proposed for Chak Dulma, while 9 projects have been identified for Chak Lala. The projects focus on improving infrastructure and strengthening livelihood opportunities for local residents.
The visit was attended by the Additional District Development Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Company Commander of BSF, district officers and local villagers.
Residents of both villages shared their concerns and demands with the Commissioner Secretary, highlighting issues related to agriculture, departmental functioning and basic infrastructure. The demand for a playground and a veterinary hospital figured prominently during the interaction.
Sheetal Nanda assured the villagers that the government would adopt an inclusive and multi-stakeholder approach to ensure the timely implementation of people-centric projects. She emphasized the importance of creating better opportunities and infrastructure for youth in border areas.
The Commissioner Secretary said that such initiatives would contribute towards building a productive, progressive and drug-free society in the border villages of Samba district.
