Jammu, June 9:
Continuing its crackdown against drug trafficking under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, Reasi Police arrested a woman drug peddler in Katra and recovered heroin from her possession.
According to police, a team from Police Station Katra was conducting routine naka checking at Masjid Chowk, Katra, when officers noticed a woman travelling in a Smart City Bus. Suspecting her movements, police personnel intercepted her and conducted a search with the assistance of lady police officials.
The woman was identified as Kamlesh, wife of Rakesh Kumar and a resident of Pouni in Reasi district.
During the search, police recovered approximately 3.1 grams of heroin (chitta). The contraband was allegedly concealed inside her hair in an attempt to evade detection.
Following the recovery, police registered FIR No. 180/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Katra.
Police said an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source of the narcotics and the intended destination of the recovered substance.
Reasi Police reiterated its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and appealed to the public to share information related to narcotics and other criminal activities. Officials said public cooperation remains vital in the fight against drug abuse and in achieving the goal of a drug-free society.
