Jammu, April 20:
A wave of anger swept through the streets outside Government College for Women (GCW) Gandhi Nagar on Monday morning as hundreds of students staged a massive protest. The demonstration follows the tragic death of Anjali Choudhary, a 4th-semester student, who died after a fatal accident during a recent college-organized trip.
The Incident
The tragedy occurred a few days ago when Anjali reportedly fell from a moving bus while participating in an official college excursion. While initial reports cited it as an accident, protesting students allege that gross negligence regarding safety protocols and transport management led to the loss of life.
Demands for Accountability
Gathering in large numbers at the college gates, the students blocked the immediate thoroughfare, raising slogans against the administration and demanding a high-level inquiry.
Key demands from the student body include:
-
Strict action against those responsible for safety lapses during the trip.
-
Greater transparency from the college administration regarding the circumstances of the fall.
-
Implementation of rigorous safety guidelines for all future student travel.
Security Measures
As the protest intensified and emotions ran high, a significant contingent of Jammu and Kashmir Police was deployed to the site to maintain law and order. While the atmosphere remained tense for several hours, security forces focused on preventing the situation from escalating further while monitoring the gathering.
Administration Silence
As of Monday afternoon, the college administration has yet to release a formal statement addressing the specific allegations of negligence. The protest has sparked a wider conversation among parents and students in the region regarding the safety of students during institutional outings.
The students have vowed to continue their struggle for justice, stating that the protest will persist until a concrete assurance of accountability is provided by the authorities.
