Jammu, April 5:
The political temperature in Jammu and Kashmir continues to rise as the Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha (BJYM) escalated its offensive against the Omar Abdullah-led National Conference (NC) government.
On Sunday, hundreds of youth from various parts of the Kathua district converged at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Chowk to demand the immediate establishment of a National Law University (NLU) in the Jammu region.
The Ultimatum: “Jammu Will Not Sit Quiet”
Leading the charge, BJYM State President Arun Prabhat issued a stern warning to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Addressing a spirited crowd, Prabhat cautioned that the National Conference must be prepared for a “mass youth agitation” across the Jammu province if the aspirations of the younger generation continue to be ignored.
“The biased character of CM Omar Abdullah towards the Jammu region has been exposed once again,” Prabhat stated. “We are giving a clear timeframe. If the legitimate demand for an NLU in Jammu is not fulfilled, the government will face an unstoppable wave of youth protests.”
Key Highlights of the Protest
-
Mass Participation: Hundreds of activists joined from across Kathua, signaling growing resentment in the border district.
-
Broken Promises: BJYM leadership questioned the credibility of the NC government, accusing them of abandoning the “false promises” made to the youth in their assembly election manifesto.
-
Regional Imbalance: Protesters alleged a systematic bias in the distribution of educational institutions between the two divisions of the UT.
