Jammu, March 19:

In a significant step toward sustainable agriculture, the Department of Agriculture (Sub-Division Dansal) successfully conducted an intensive awareness camp in village Seri Kalan. The event saw the active participation of 50 farmers from the local organic cluster, signaling a robust shift away from chemical-dependent farming.

Under the strategic guidance of SDAO Dansal, Ashwani Gupta, the initiative focused on “Organic Farming: The Future of Agriculture,” providing both the knowledge and the physical tools necessary for a successful transition to eco-friendly cultivation.

From Theory to Field: Distribution of Bio-Inputs

To ensure the session was more than just a lecture, the department distributed a comprehensive kit of organic inputs to all participating farmers. These tools are designed to replace synthetic fertilizers and pesticides:

  • Pest Management: Neem oil and Neem cake.

  • Soil Enrichment: Vermicompost and Azotobacter.

  • Nutritional Support: Liquid NPK.

Expert Briefing: The Science of Organic Success

The camp featured technical sessions led by agricultural experts who provided a roadmap for “Integrated Organic Practices”:

“Precision is key,” explained SMS Pranav Chadda. “Neem-based products offer a formidable, eco-friendly defense against pests. When paired with Azotobacter for nitrogen fixation and liquid NPK at critical growth stages—sowing, vegetative, and flowering—farmers can achieve balanced yields without exhausting the soil.”

AEO Nagrota, Koushalya Devi, further briefed the community on financial and structural support. She urged growers to tap into schemes available under the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP) and Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) to build long-term market resilience.

On-Ground Coordination

The technical team, including Vishal Manny (JAEO), Varinder Kumar (JAEO), and Lalit Sharma (AEA), conducted practical demonstrations on the application of the distributed products. The logistics and mobilization of the local farming community were seamlessly managed by Arfa Malik (JAEO) and AEAs Jashod and Sandeep Gupta.

Community Response

The farming community expressed high appreciation for the Agriculture Team Nagrota. Many participants noted that the “modern know-how” and access to the latest agricultural technology provided during the camp have given them the confidence to move away from traditional chemical methods.

As soil health becomes a global priority, the farmers of Seri Kalan are now positioned at the forefront of the organic movement, ensuring a healthier food chain and a more sustainable environment for future generations.
