Jammu, March 16:

In a significant blow to the illegal timber trade, the Doda Police successfully intercepted a smuggling attempt during the intervening night of March 15-16. The operation resulted in the recovery of a large cache of illicitly transported timber near the Bhalra area.

The Midnight Interception

Acting on a tip-off and heightened vigilance, a specialized police party from Police Post Bhalra set up a checkpoint to monitor suspicious vehicular movement. During the operation, officers intercepted a vehicle with registration number JK06C-4883.

Upon a thorough search of the vehicle, police discovered 26 Kail timber sleepers packed inside. The driver failed to produce any valid permits or legal documentation for the transport of the forest produce.

Suspect Apprehended

The driver of the vehicle has been identified as: Sunil Kumar, S/O Ved Raj and Resident Of Sarna, Bhaderwah, District Doda.

Legal Action Initiated

The vehicle and the seized timber have been impounded and shifted to Police Post Bhalra. Following standard protocol for forest-related offenses, the Forest Department has been formally notified to initiate legal proceedings under the relevant sections of the Forest Act.
