In a formal statement released today, March 12, 2026, Dr. Shazad Ahmed Malik, Chairman of JKBADC and former Vice Chancellor, described the incident as a “dastardly and cowardly act.”
The attack occurred late Wednesday night at a wedding function where Dr. Abdullah, a Z+ category protectee, was targeted at point-blank range.
“This act against a leader of Dr. Farooq Abdullah’s stature is an attack on the entire democratic fabric of our society,” Dr. Malik stated. “We thank the Almighty that Dr. Abdullah is safe.”
Security Lapse Under Fire
The JKBADC Chairman did not mince words regarding the protection failure that allowed an armed assailant to get within inches of the veteran leader.
Key Demands from BADC:
-
Accountability: A thorough investigation into the “serious security lapse.”
-
Swift Justice: Immediate and strictest legal action against the culprits.
-
Unity: A call for all political parties and citizens to stand united against such heinous acts.
