Jammu, Feb 13:

As part of its strategic outreach for the new year, the Special Crime Wing (SCW) Jammu today organized a comprehensive awareness programme at the Government High School (GHS), Channi Rama. The initiative aimed to equip students and educators with vital knowledge regarding the evolving legal landscape of India and the persistent social challenge of substance abuse.

Key Highlights of the Session

The programme was led by a high-level team from the Special Crime Wing, ensuring that students received both legal and field-perspective insights. The team included:

  • Ms. Neha Nayyar, Senior Prosecuting Officer (PO)

  • Mr. Deepak Jasrotia, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP)

  • Mr. Ashok Bajaj, Inspector

Mastering the ‘Nyaya Sanhita’

A primary focus of the visit was the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the landmark legal framework that has replaced the colonial-era Indian Penal Code.

  • Legal Literacy: Senior PO Neha Nayyar provided detailed explanations of the new provisions, emphasizing how the law has become more victim-centric and digitally integrated.

  • Student Engagement: The session transitioned into a vibrant Q&A, where students sought clarity on how these new laws protect citizens’ rights in the modern era.

Combating the Drug Menace

In addition to legal education, the team conducted a deep-dive session on drug abuse prevention.

  • Practical Guidance: DySP Deepak Jasrotia and Inspector Ashok Bajaj shared real-world examples of the dangers of narcotics and provided students with actionable guidance on how to stay safe and report suspicious activities.

  • Interactive Discussions: The practical, non-lecture format allowed students to discuss peer pressure and the socio-economic impacts of addiction openly.

The 2026 Vision: Outreach as a Priority

This visit is not an isolated event but a cornerstone of the SCW’s roadmap for the current year. Speaking on the initiative, SSP Special Crime Wing Jammu, Sh. Sanjay Parihar, reiterated the department’s commitment to community policing.

“Conducting outreach visits to educational institutions and spreading awareness amongst the students and teachers is one of the key resolutions of SCW Jammu for the year 2026. Education is our strongest weapon in preventing crime before it happens.” — SSP Sanjay Parihar

The school administration and staff lauded the SCW team for the “informative and impactful” session, noting that such interactions bridge the gap between the police force and the youth.
