Jammu, Feb 1:
In a significant strike against the drug syndicate operating in the region, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Jammu and Kashmir successfully intercepted a major shipment of narcotics on the Sidhra-Panjtirthi link road today.
The Operation
Acting on precise intelligence, an ANTF team established a strategic checkpoint (naka) along the Sidhra-Panjtirthi link road. During the operation, officers intercepted a white Alto car (Registration No: JK02AF-0417).
A meticulous search of the vehicle led to the discovery of over 18 kilograms of Poppy Straw (locally known as Bhuki). The contraband was reportedly hidden within the vehicle to evade detection during transit.
The Suspect
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was immediately taken into custody. He has been identified as: Kirpal Singh (46), S/O Chatur Singh, residence of Gunda Khawas, District Rajouri, current address Purkhu, Jammu.
Investigation & Legal Action
Preliminary questioning suggests that the accused was acting as a key transporter, moving the contraband from Kashmir to Jammu. Police believe the narcotics were intended for distribution among the “gullible youth” of Jammu and its surrounding outskirts.
-
FIR Registered: Case No. 02/2026 under the NDPS Act.
-
Seizures: 18+ Kgs of Poppy Straw and the Maruti Alto car.
-
Next Steps: The ANTF is currently working to trace the “backward linkages” to identify the original source in Kashmir and the wider network of distributors in Jammu.
