Srinagar, January 31:
In a pointed outreach to the marginalized sections of North Kashmir, Shabeer Ahmed Zargar, Vice President of the BJP OBC Morcha, visited the Shanoo Mawer area of Langate Constituency today. The visit, aimed at assessing the ground reality for Other Backward Classes (OBC), has brought to light a disturbing pattern of administrative neglect and infrastructure deficit.
Accompanied by local party workers, Zargar conducted a door-to-door assessment, interacting with families who claim they have been sidelined from the Union Territory’s developmental roadmap for years.
The Crisis in Shanoo Mawer: Key Findings
The findings from the visit suggest that despite a plethora of Central Government schemes, the benefits are failing to reach the last mile in this pocket of Kupwara district.
-
Deprivation of Food Security: Nearly 28 eligible OBC households reported that they have not been issued ration cards, cutting them off from essential subsidized food supplies.
-
Housing Shortage: Despite fulfilling the criteria for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), several families continue to live in dilapidated conditions without receiving the housing assistance meant for the poor.
-
Infrastructure Deficit: The residents highlighted a complete lack of basic utilities, specifically the absence of electric poles and conductors, leaving the locality in a state of perennial darkness.
“No Bias Will Be Tolerated”: Braham Jyot Satti
Reacting to the report submitted by the Vice President, Braham Jyot Satti, President of the BJP OBC Morcha J&K, expressed serious concern over the ground situation.
“It is unfortunate that even after years of governance reforms, sections of the OBC community in Kashmir continue to remain deprived of basic rights. The BJP OBC Morcha will not tolerate discrimination or neglect. We are fully committed to ensuring that every eligible household receives their rightful share—from PMAY houses to electricity,” Satti stated.
Satti further emphasized that the Morcha, under the guidance of State General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul, would be taking up these grievances with the UT Administration at the highest level to ensure “time-bound redressal.”
Assurance to the Marginalized
Speaking to the local residents, Shabeer Ahmed Zargar reiterated that the party would act as a bridge between the people and the government. “We are here to be the voice of those who have been forgotten. Your issues will be strongly pursued at the appropriate platforms until justice is delivered,” Zargar assured the gathered families.
The BJP OBC Morcha has now formally appealed to both the Central Government and the J&K Administration to conduct a fresh survey of the OBC pockets in Kupwara to ensure that developmental initiatives reach those historically excluded.
