Jammu, January 29:

In a major blow to the narcotics trade in the Jammu region, the Samba Police successfully intercepted a high-end vehicle at Tarapur today, arresting three inter-district smugglers, including a woman. The operation resulted in the recovery of over 127 grams of heroin (locally known as ‘Chitta’) and a significant amount of cash.

The crackdown is part of an ongoing intensified drive against the “drug menace” that has seen several successful operations across the district this January.

The Interception: Naka at Tarapur

Acting on specific and “reliable” intelligence regarding the movement of contraband, a team from Police Station Vijaypur established a strategic checkpoint (Naka) at Tarapur.

The police team successfully flagged down a white Innova car (Registration No: JK02DD-2516) which was traveling from the Rakh Barotian area toward Vijaypur. Upon a thorough search of the vehicle and its occupants, officers discovered:

  • 127 grams of heroin-like substance.

  • ₹60,600 in cash (suspected to be drug proceeds).

  • The vehicle used for the crime, which was immediately seized.

Profiles of the Accused

The arrested individuals have been identified as residents of Srinagar and Jammu, suggesting an organized inter-district network:

  1. Fardeen Ahmed Dar – Resident of Tengpora Bypass, Batmaloo, Srinagar.

  2. Mohd Usman – Resident of Talab Khatikan, Jammu.

  3. Iqra (W/o Aqib) – Resident of Shalteng, Srinagar.

All three suspects are currently in custody at PS Vijaypur as investigators work to trace the “backward and forward linkages” of the consignment.

Legal Action & Supervision

A formal case has been registered under FIR No. 19/2026 at Police Station Vijaypur. The charges include several stringent sections of the NDPS Act:

  • Section 8/21/22: Pertaining to the manufacture, possession, and sale of prohibited substances.

  • Section 29: Dealing with abetment and criminal conspiracy.

The operation was executed by a dedicated team from PS Vijaypur, headed by the SHO PS Vijaypur, under the direct supervision of SDPO Vijaypur and the overall leadership of SSP Samba.
