Jammu, Jan 19:

In a significant move to bolster the bond between law enforcement and the local community, the Jammu Police organized a high-level Police-Public Partnership Group (PPPG) meeting today at Kullian, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Miran Sahib.

The meeting, led by SP Headquarters Jammu, Sh. Irshad Hussain Rather-JKPS, saw a massive turnout of over 150 residents, including local village heads (Numberdars/Chowkidars), former Sarpanchs, and prominent business owners.

Key Highlights of the Engagement

The initiative is part of an ongoing effort by the Jammu and Kashmir Police to move toward a more transparent, accountable, and citizen-centric policing model.

  • Bridging the Gap: Officers focused on fostering a sense of safety and encouraging direct interaction with the public.

  • Modern Legal Literacy: Participants were briefed on the New Criminal Laws, specifically citizen-friendly features such as:

    • Zero-FIR & e-FIR: Allowing complaints to be filed regardless of jurisdiction or via digital platforms.

    • Preliminary Enquiry (PE): Ensuring fair initial assessments.

    • Forensic Integration: The increasing role of digital evidence in modern investigations.

  • Security Infrastructure: In line with Deputy Commissioner Jammu’s orders, business owners were strongly advised to install CCTV cameras to deter criminal activity.

Tackling the Drug Menace and Youth Safety

The local residents raised pressing concerns regarding drug abuse and traffic violations. There was a unanimous call from the community for concrete action and professional counseling for the youth to prevent them from falling into the trap of addiction.

SP Headquarters Jammu responded by urging the younger generation to remain vigilant not only against drugs but also against online scams and anti-national activities. He also emphasized the critical importance of tenant verification for maintaining local security.

A Commitment to Resolution

The police leadership, including SDPO R.S. Pura Sh. Gurmeet Singh-JKPS, SHO Miran Sahib Insp. Azad Manhas, and Incharge BPP Kullian PSI Mashkoor Ahmad, listened to the grievances of the attendees.

“Your genuine concerns regarding police matters will be resolved on priority,” assured SP Irshad Hussain Rather. “Issues related to civil administration will be proactively taken up with the concerned departments for speedy redressal.”

The local community expressed deep appreciation for the outreach, noting that such meetings are essential for building a “bridge of trust.” The event concluded with a vote of thanks, with residents requesting that such interactive sessions become a regular feature in the area.
