Jammu, January 13:
In an era where stories of greed often dominate the headlines, an e-rickshaw driver from Jammu has restored faith in humanity. Vikas, a resident of Patoli Mangotrian, has become a local hero after returning a lost backpack containing nearly 40 tolas of gold, valued at approximately ₹65 lakh.
The incident unfolded when a woman passenger hired Vikas’s e-rickshaw for a commute. In her haste to reach her destination, she accidentally left her backpack behind on the seat. It wasn’t until later, while checking his vehicle, that Vikas discovered the bag.
Upon opening it to identify the owner, he was stunned to find a massive hoard of gold jewelry.
Integrity Over Greed
Despite the life-changing value of the find, Vikas did not hesitate for a moment. He immediately drove to the Panjtirthi Police Post to report the lost property. The police officers on duty were impressed by his integrity and quickly launched an investigation to trace the rightful owner.
The police successfully contacted the woman, who was distraught over the loss of her valuables. The backpack and the jewelry were returned to her safely at the police station in the presence of Vikas.
The Jammu police department and the general public have come forward to laud Vikas for his exemplary character.
“Vikas has set a benchmark for honesty. His actions remind us that integrity is still very much alive in our society,” said a senior police official.
This heartwarming story has gone viral on social media, with many calling for a formal reward or recognition for Vikas to encourage such noble behavior among citizens.
