Jammu, January 10:
The School Education Department has officially cleared the air regarding the winter break for schools in the Summer Zone of Jammu. Despite heavy speculation circulating on social media platforms, officials have confirmed that there will be no extension of the winter vacations.
All government and recognized private institutions are set to resume normal academic activities starting Monday, January 12, 2026.
Key Highlights of the Official Announcement:
-
Reopening Date: January 12, 2026 (Monday).
-
Scope: All government and private schools in the Jammu Summer Zone.
-
Faculty Status: Teaching staff have already resumed duties as of Saturday, January 10.
-
Official Stance: Reports of weather-based extensions have been labeled as “baseless.”
For the past few days, several unverified posts on WhatsApp and Facebook suggested that the winter break might be prolonged due to the prevailing cold wave conditions. However, the Education Department issued a stern clarification on Saturday, urging parents and students to rely only on official notifications.
“The clarification was necessary to prevent misinformation. All necessary arrangements are in place to ensure schools function smoothly from Monday,” stated a senior official.
While students are enjoying their final weekend of holidays, teachers were directed to attend their respective institutions today (Saturday) to prepare for the return of students. School administrations have been instructed to follow the notified academic calendar strictly.
The department reiterated that any future changes to school timings or holidays would be communicated exclusively through official government channels. Public members are advised to refrain from spreading unverified information that causes unnecessary confusion among the student community.
