Srinagar, Jan 6:
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) OBC Morcha has launched a scathing attack on the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah-led government, accusing the administration of failing to provide the most basic human necessity—clean and safe drinking water—to marginalized communities in North Kashmir.
The criticism follows a ground-level assessment in the Langate Assembly Constituency, where several villages predominantly inhabited by the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community have been reeling under an acute water shortage for months.
The crisis has hit the residents of Lokipora, Sunerwani, and Seh Dagpora the hardest. According to local reports, the absence of functional tap water has forced a desperate population to seek alternatives: Women and children are walking miles daily to fetch water from distant sources, Families are increasingly dependent on contaminated streams and open ponds, sparking fears of a water-borne disease outbreak and Leaders allege that these specific areas are being ignored due to their demographic profile.
On the directions of State President Braham Jyot Satti, the State Vice President of BJP OBC Morcha, Shabeer Ahmad Zargar, conducted an emergency visit to the affected areas.
“It is unacceptable in a democratic setup that citizens are denied their fundamental right to clean water,” Zargar said while interacting with locals. “The denial of water reflects this government’s insensitivity towards remote and marginalized communities. Their claims of development are hollow.”
“Anti-Poor Mindset”: Braham Jyot Satti
Reacting to the ground reports, BJP OBC Morcha State President Braham Jyot Satti termed the situation “shameful.” He accused the National Conference-led government of harboring an “anti-poor and anti-OBC mindset.”
Satti vowed that the Morcha would not remain silent and promised to escalate the issue to the highest levels of the Jammu & Kashmir administration to ensure a permanent and sustainable solution for the residents of Kupwara.
The BJP OBC Morcha has warned of further protests if the Jal Shakti department does not restore the water supply to Lokipora and Sunerwani within the coming days.
