Money Distribution Spree

Party Questions Role of Administration in Upholding Democratic Values

SRINAGAR, SEPT 30: A day before voting, the Peoples Conference (PC) on Monday raised serious allegations against a candidate in the Kupwara Assembly segment, accusing them of distributing money in an effort to secure votes.

In a tweet, the PC claimed that the candidate, already notorious for such practices, has been on a “money distribution spree.” The party expressed concern over the apparent lack of oversight by the authorities, calling for immediate intervention.

“Can the administration please wake up? A candidate in the Kupwara Assembly segment, notorious for distributing money, is virtually on a money distribution spree. There seems to be absolutely no checks. Nothing at all,” the party said in its statement.

The PC questioned the integrity of the electoral process, criticizing the administration’s failure to curb the use of money to influence voters. “A humble question to the administration: Is this the new definition of democracy? Will currency notes and goodies define democratic outcomes?” the party asked.

The party further alleged that the candidate in question had been making a group of individuals swear by the Kalima (Islamic declaration of faith), yet no substantial action had been taken against them. “This person was also seen making a group swear by the Kalima. Yet no action was taken. Just a routine ornamental explanation,” the PC stated, expressing confidence that such tactics would not affect the election results.

In light of these allegations, the party called on the administration to increase scrutiny, suggesting enhanced checks and the establishment of nakkas (road checkpoints) to prevent the distribution of money by the candidate.

Meanwhile, Nasir Aslam Wani, National Conference leader and the party’s candidate for the Kupwara Assembly segment, also voiced concerns. He called for a thorough investigation into a recent solar light scam in the district, which he claims has resulted in significant losses for the people of Kupwara. “This scam has taken place and caused colossal loss to the people of Kupwara. Not only me, Peoples Conference leadership has also raised the issue,” Wani stated—(KNO).
