AIIMS Jammu

JAMMU, SEPT 28: AIIMS Jammu has taken a significant step in providing comprehensive cancer care within the state, bringing relief to patients who previously had to travel outside Jammu & Kashmir for treatment. Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Jammu, expressed his commitment to improving cancer care services during a recent press conference.

Prof. Gupta, reflecting on his tenure at AIIMS Delhi, shared his personal connection with the issue. “Many patients from Jammu came to me in Delhi for cancer treatment. Their struggles to receive care far from home deeply moved me. Now, I am fortunate to have the opportunity to bring advanced cancer treatment closer to them,” he said.

The hospital has successfully treated its first chemotherapy patient at the Department of Radiotherapy Oncology, led by Prof. (Dr.) Shabab Angurana. The team, including Dr. Girija Priya Sharma, Dr. Anjali Bhola, Senior Resident Dr. Suridhi Jasrotia, Junior Resident Dr. Radhakrishna, and Senior Nursing Officer Arti Sharma, treated a relapsed ovarian cancer patient with chemotherapy and targeted therapy. The patient responded well and was discharged in stable condition.

Prof. Gupta emphasized that this is just the beginning. Over the next few months, AIIMS Jammu will expand its oncology services to include advanced treatments like external radiation therapy, brachytherapy, and cancer surgeries, offering a complete range of cancer care.

He urged the people of Jammu & Kashmir to prioritize their health, stressing the importance of regular screenings, early detection, and a healthy lifestyle. “Cancer is a battle we must fight together. Early detection and prevention through vaccines can save lives,” Prof. Gupta added.

In a powerful conclusion, he said, “We must fight cancer, win life, and make our nation healthier and stronger.”
