NEW DELHI, SEPT 24: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Tuesday lodged a formal protest with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) after one of its jawans was abducted by a group of “miscreants” from Bangladesh while patrolling near the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal.

According to a BSF statement, the jawan was patrolling near the Biral border in the Dinajpur area when he was forcibly taken across the border into Bangladesh by a group of 15-20 “illegal Bangladeshi miscreants.” The abducted jawan was handed over to the BGB, who placed him in their custody.

In response, the BSF’s North Bengal Frontier Inspector General, based in Siliguri, swiftly reached out to the Region Commander of the North West Region of BGB, demanding the immediate release of the jawan. Following a flag meeting between Sector Commanders from both sides, the BGB returned the abducted BSF trooper.

The BSF strongly condemned the incident, describing it as an act of aggression, and lodged a formal protest with the BGB. The force emphasized the importance of maintaining peaceful relations along the border and urged the BGB to prevent its citizens from engaging in unlawful activities.

Despite the abduction, the BSF reiterated its commitment to its “ZERO FIRING” policy along the India-Bangladesh border and sought cooperation from the BGB to ensure border safety and security. The two countries share a 4,096 km-long border, which is guarded by the BSF and BGB.

The BSF has been on heightened alert since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government in Dhaka on August 5.
