US-Based Gang

JALANDHAR, MAR 03: In a significant operation on Sunday, Punjab Police apprehended two associates of the US-based Sonu Khatri Gang, both wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Jammu and Kashmir Sub-Inspector Deepak Sharma in April 2024.

The suspects, identified as Sukhwinder Kumar from SBS Nagar and Jaswinder Singh of Kang Jagir village in Jalandhar, were intercepted by the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) team near Suchi Pind village. Upon being signaled to stop, the duo opened fire on the police, prompting a retaliatory response. During the exchange, both suspects sustained leg injuries and were subsequently subdued.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav highlighted the significance of these arrests, stating that they not only bring the perpetrators of SI Sharma’s killing to justice but also thwarted three potential murders planned by the gang.

Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur detailed the operation, noting that acting on a tip-off, the CIA team anticipated the suspects’ movements. The ensuing confrontation led to the recovery of two sophisticated pistols, seven live rounds, and six used cartridges from the scene.

Both individuals have a history of criminal activities, including robberies and snatching incidents, with multiple cases pending against them. Their association with the Sonu Khatri Gang, which operates from the United States, underscores the gang’s extensive network and the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in curbing its influence.
