The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken a firm stand against the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) request to relocate its T20 World Cup 2026 matches from India to Sri Lanka, citing a lack of legitimate security concerns.
In a decisive virtual meeting held on Tuesday, the ICC reportedly informed the BCB that there are no “red flags” regarding security for teams playing in India. The global cricket governing body has made it clear that the tournament schedule and venues will remain unchanged.
Bangladesh had formally requested a “hybrid model”—similar to what was used for Pakistan in past tournaments—proposing that their matches be shifted to Sri Lanka, who are co-hosting the event with India.
The ICC has delivered a stern warning to the BCB: the Bangladesh men’s national team is obligated to travel to India for their scheduled fixtures. Sources suggest that if Bangladesh refuses to travel, they risk forfeiting points in the tournament standings, which could lead to an early exit from the World Cup.
