Jammu, Dec 27:

In a stirring display of patriotism and martial precision, 347 young recruits from the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir were formally inducted into the Territorial Army (Home and Hearth) during a grand attestation parade held on Friday.

The ceremony, conducted under the aegis of the Romeo Force, took place at the military station in Rajouri, marking the culmination of months of grueling physical and mental training.

The new soldiers, often referred to as “Sons of the Soil,” hail from various districts across Jammu and Kashmir. Their induction into the Home and Hearth units is a strategic move designed to integrate local youth into the national security framework while allowing them to remain connected to their roots.

As the recruits marched in perfect unison across the parade ground, they took the oath of allegiance, pledging to defend the sovereignty and integrity of India. The air was filled with pride as family members and senior military officials witnessed the transition of these young men from civilians to disciplined soldiers.

The Territorial Army serves as a vital bridge between the regular army and the civilian population. The Home and Hearth battalions specifically recruit locals to serve in their own regions, leveraging their knowledge of the local terrain and language to enhance internal security and counter-insurgency efforts.

“The addition of these young recruits significantly strengthens our operational capabilities,” a senior official from Romeo Force stated. “It reinforces the Army’s commitment to involving the community in national security.”

Unlike the regular army, the TA is a part-time service that allows citizens to wear the uniform for specific periods each year while continuing their civilian professions. However, these recruits remain a ready reserve, prepared for deployment in times of national emergency or to assist civil administrations during natural calamities.

Following the parade, the new soldiers will undergo specialized training before being deployed to various units. For many of these young men, joining the TA is not just a job, but a lifelong dream of wearing the olive green and serving the motherland.
