Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Jammu for a high-stakes three-day visit, blending a solemn tribute to India’s fallen heroes with a strategic push for the Union Territory’s security and development. On Friday, February 6, the Home Minister focused on grassroots engagement, meeting with bereaved families and local leadership to reiterate the Centre’s “zero-tolerance” policy toward terrorism.

Supporting the ‘Next of Kin’: Compassionate Appointments

In a moving ceremony at Lok Bhawan, Home Minister Shah personally handed over appointment letters to the family members of jawans who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

Following the distribution of job letters, the Home Minister shifted focus to organizational strength, chairing a meeting with BJP MPs, MLAs, and office bearers. Key directives from the meeting included:

  • Grassroots Outreach: A mandate for leaders to ensure that 100% of the benefits from central welfare schemes reach the “last person in the queue.”

  • Security Awareness: Strengthening local intelligence and public cooperation to maintain a “Secure Jammu & Kashmir.”

  • Political Expansion: Strategy for upcoming organizational growth across both the Jammu and Kashmir divisions.

The Road Ahead: High-Level Review on Saturday

The visit will culminate on Saturday, February 7, with a critical high-level meeting. This session is expected to bridge political divides as it brings together the central government and the local administration.

  • Lieutenant Governor: Manoj Sinha

  • Chief Minister: Omar Abdullah

  • Security Top Brass: Senior officials from the MHA, Intelligence Bureau, and J&K Police.

The Agenda:

  2. Anti-Infiltration Grid: Reviewing new tech-driven surveillance at the border to counter drone activities and infiltration.
